For transportation in and outside Nice we recommend car-rental. Although it is easy to take 50 meters from the villa the citybus that goes directly into the center of Nice (see below), a car is of course easy to go to that museum at the other end of Nice, to transport your groceries, to go home quickly in the evening after a dinner in the center, etc . Also sightseeing in the area goes very well by car; the Cote dÁzur is a compact area and there is a good network of (motor)ways so you can go quickly to Italy, Cannes, Monaco, ... In the citycentre of Nice there are also many parking-garages (next to the station, below the NiceEtoile shopping centre located in the middle of the main shopping street, below the Cours Saleya Flowermarket in the Old City, below Palais de Mediteranee next to the beach, etc.) so parking your car is easy.
Besides well known rental companies like Avis or Budget there are also many local, often low-cost, rentalcompanies where you can rent cars. Both small cars (like the popular Smart), normal family cars, cabriolets or 9-persons minivans are for rent at most companies. If you are flying into Nice you probably want to pick up a car directly at the airport; click HERE for a list of all carrental-companies at the airport. If you prefer a local-car-rental-company you can visit the website of locauto.fr or rentacar.fr. Both mentioned local companies have a branche nearby the Nice Central Station (can be reached directly by citybus from the villa).
Busses & Tramway in Nice
When you arrive by plane you can also take a taxi or a bus to Villa “La Citronneraie”. By coach from the city-centre or the trainstation to the villa it takes about 10 minutes. Only 50 meters from the villa there is a busstop. During the week you can take twice an hour a bus to and from the centre (Nice-city-busses; one-way approx. Euro 1 ). In the evening and on Sunday the busservice is more limited.
Since a few years Nice has also a new Tramway system which is very popular. If you take the citybus from our villa directly down the hill to the Trainstation you can pick here the tramway to the north of Nice or further into the center and to Nice East. If you have rented a car(s) you can in stead of driving down the hill directly to the center also go into the other direction further to NIce North (10 minutes drive). Here you find the startpoint of the Tramway and a big car-parking. If you buy a ticket for the tram you can park your car here all day for free ! Restaurants & Shops
If you want to "eat-out" you can go to one of the numerous restaurants in the center of Nice. Typical French and a lot of Italian restaurants you find in the Old Town of Nice, modern and trendy restaurants are located in the new quarters of Nice, for luxurious restaurants you go to the exclusive hotels and Japanese and a lot of restaurants with reasonable menuprices are situated around the trainstation of Nice. So it will be hard to choose ! In the villa you can find a list with restaurants we can recommend you.
Very near the house (walking-distance; about 200 meters / 650 feet) you find a small church with next to it restaurant "Mas des Oliviers" (good food, reasonable prices, cuisine Nicoise, possibilities for breakfast, lunch and dinner). This restaurant has an outside terrace and also private rooms. Another restaurant on the same hill of our villa is "Bella Vista"; (Italian restaurant; pizza, pasta's but also some dishes with meat and fish). The view on the city of Nice is very nice. A third restaurant in the direct surroundings of La Citronneraie is "restaurant Cicion". This is a more expensive, well known and exclusive restaurant which has a big terrace / garden with also panoramic views on the city and sea.
Next to 2 of the 3 above mentioned restaurants there is also a small shop / bakery situated which sells among other things also daily fresh bread. You can find supermarkets on the way into the centre of Nice. Two big supermarkets („supermarche”) you find in 2 big shopping malls located at the edge of the city: Cap3000 next to the airport and Carrefour in NIce Lingoustiere (see map „Where in Nice”)
About 1500 meter (5000 feet) from the villa there is a Pizza Take Away service. There are also various companies offering pizza and pasta delivery. Furthermore there are many cateringservices in Nice. If you would like to stay at the villa but do not want to spend time in the kitchen you can also hire a french chef (cook) who can can prepare a lunch or dinner at Villa La Citronneraie. We have various contacts for this.
Weather & temperatures
Thanks to its protected position by the Southern Alps and its mild climat Nice is one of the most important holiday destinations of Europe. In winter the average temperature is almost never under 10 degrees Celcius (50 Ft) and in summer it is thanks to a refreshing sea-breeze always very pleasantly warm up to mostly 30 degrees Celcius (86 F). Even in the wintermonths the temperature can rise pretty high so even in this period one can regularly have lunch outside. Nice is famous for lots of hours of sun; even in a month as October you can get a tan with an average of 12 sunhours a day in this month.
